Who We Are
Charleston Sound Chorus is dedicated to educating, entertaining, and competing as part of the prestigious Sweet Adelines International organization.
Under the direction of David Templeton, our members combine vocal technique with exceptional musicality to create a dynamic, four-part a cappella ensemble. From classical pieces to show tunes, we approach every style with the same commitment to musical excellence.
What Makes It Barbershop?
It all comes down to the melody placement and chord structure. Unlike traditional choral music, where the melody is usually the highest note, barbershop places it in the middle of the chord, supported by rich, close harmonies—often featuring the signature dominant 7th chord. But beyond the music theory, the magic of barbershop lies in the overtone—the exhilarating ring that emerges when voices blend just right. Never heard it before? Come experience it for yourself!
